Although ice cream generally contains quite a lot of fat and calories, it can be eaten occasionally as part of a healthy diet. For example, a scoop with some fresh fruit salad for a change. Frozen yoghurt is not necessarily lower in fat than ice cream, so do compare nutritional information on packets. Low fat iced desserts may be lower in fat but may not be much lower.

Ice cream makers

There are a number of ice cream makers on the market and they vary dramatically in price, however they are all based on a similar principle. Simply freeze the bowl and pop it back in the machine before you pour in your chosen ice cream, or frozen yogurt mixture. The machine will then freeze and churn the mixture to give a smooth even textured result with hardly any physical effort.

Frozen yoghurt

Pour 6 x 150g/5oz fruit yoghurts into a freezer proof container and freeze for 3 hours, remove from the freezer and mash thoroughly with a fork to remove any ice crystals. Place back in the freezer and freeze until solid. Serve.
